The World's First Undersea Restaurant

The World's First Undersea Restaurant

Hilton Maldives Resort ~ Spa announces the arrival of Ithaa, the world's
first aquarium-style undersea restaurant at the resort. Designed in New Zealand, Ithaa will sit six meters below the waves of the indian Ocean, surrounded by a vibrant coral reef and encased in clear acrylic offering diners 180-degrees of panoramic underwater views. The five-metre by nine-metre transparent arch, which spans the entire room, provides o feeling of being completely at one with the underwater world while sub-merged beneath the surface of the ocean. Set with the resort's renowned house reef one side, and a clear lagoon on the other, diners enjoy their meal within Ithaa's translucent shell as the underwater drama unfolds on all sides. The cuisine is dedicated to the fine balance of western food items with a Moldivian flavour. Diners begin their meal with drinks on a specially constructed deck over the ocean and then descend to the res- tourant via a spiral staircase where the a la carte menu is served. Seating only 14 people, Ithaa offers one of the most intimate and exclusive dining experiences.

Hydrophobia is Major Problem to World Tourism

As television images are beamed around the world showing absolutely
horrific scenes of devastation and death, Hydrophobia, the fear of water, could well become a now challenge that the tourism industry around the world will have to face. A couple of British tourists travelling to Thailand from Singapore said they were considering cancelling their long awaited holiday to Koh Sarnui because they just would not be able to relax, and would not be abre to take their eyes of the water. Koh Samui, as with all other areas in the Gulf of Siam, was not affected by Tsunami that hit Thailand's west coast and other Asian countries late last year. The devastation caused was beyond belief, and the images were enough to sicken millions, Millions have been affected and the cost of rebuilding lives, communities and peoples' confidence will cost billions of dollars. As with all phobias, it will take time to overcome, said an expert, but once again, Asia's tourism industry which was only just recovering from the SARS crisis, war in Iraq and terrorist attacks, finds itself facing another incomprehensible and unexpected challenge.
